"The Heart of the Beast"

In Nez Perce culture, each separate tribe

was first put on earth through the efforts

of Coyote, who killed the beast and

scattered his organs. Here lies the heart,

where Chief Joseph and his clan first

appeared.

 

 

 

Lochsa River, where Lewis and Clark decened out of the Bitterroot Mountains on their westward journey. They camped at a site right here on the left side of the river and put their horses on the island on the right so they wouldn't scatter.
